FULFILLING AN ONGOING COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY VALUES: TRUE VALUE’S FALL STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN RAISES MORE THAN $625,000 FOR EXPANDING OPPORTUNITIES TO AT-RISK CHILDREN

March 02, 2015

CHICAGO, March 2, 2015 ‒ True Value Company today announced that its Fall Stewardship Campaign raised more than $625,000. Proceeds will benefit True Value Foundation and United Way, two organizations unified in the belief that improving access to quality education is the key to ending generational poverty.

During the annual Fall Stewardship Campaign, employees came together to volunteer and provide financial support to those in great need. Through pledges, payroll deductions, volunteer activities and sponsored recreational events, True Value employees put their money where it really counts. The 2014 campaign surpassed the $600,000 mark ‒ an all-time high and a 19 percent increase over 2013. True Value Company employees contributed a majority of the funds, with a company match on a percentage of pledging.

With money comes the power to get things done. But stewardship means that money is only the beginning. “Stewardship isn’t just a tagline; it’s something we live and breathe,” emphasizes John Hartmann, True Value President and CEO. “Education can have a transformative impact on children’s lives. Unfortunately, too many children face obstacles that prevent them from maximizing their true potential. That’s why I’m proud that this year’s campaign far exceeded our expectations.”

Since the 1980s, thousands of True Value employees have participated in year-round volunteer projects and fund-raising initiatives. By making a positive and lasting contribution, stewardship has become firmly anchored in the company’s culture. “At True Value, stewardship is an extension of the value we provide our customers every day. Through the Fall Stewardship Campaign, we are able to link True Value’s philanthropic efforts to community-based organizations that are providing the support, education and opportunities for underserved kids to succeed,” explains Chris Taylor, Director of the True Value Foundation.

True Value Company celebrates a successful 2014 Fall Stewardship Campaign; thanks its incredibly talented, committed and generous workforce; and looks forward to fostering community empowerment through the stewardship program for many years to come.
