Morris Hardware: Six Generations of Success

October 18, 2018
As the oldest family-owned and operated hardware store in the state of Ohio, Morris Hardware has been proudly serving the McConnelsville community for 173 years.

On September 15, the True Value retailer participated in the first McConnelsville Open Doors initiative, welcoming visitors to their facility for tours and sharing the rich history of the six generations that have managed the business since 1845. This lively gathering drew 132 attendees, who had the chance to explore the store and chat with current owner Tom Schanken at an interactive Q&A.

While Morris Hardware has remodeled through the years, they have held onto some charming nostalgic touches, such as a single 50 ft. beam in the basement from their original structure. This marvel of early engineering, along with pressed tin ceilings and remnants of antique machinery, keeps America’s early heritage alive alongside an impressive selection of modern hardware offerings.

"Events like these underscore our connection and commitment to the community,” Tom explains. “By speaking with visitors and sharing memories, we come to understand their own history with our business. Such outreach keeps us relevant and visible in this day and age."

Congratulations to Tom Schanken and the Morris Hardware team!
